fun

BONUS: Halloween Carnival

A few random moments from the school's Halloween Carnival. The event is run entirely by parents. Doesn't make a whole lot of money for the school, but everyone seems to have fun. A nice, community event. A great example of how schools really are at the heart of our communities.

P.S. A shout out to Mrs. L! How many other principals would dress up as a bag of Jelly Belly's and lead the parade with the kindergartners?! Good stuff, even if she is a Cal fan. : ) Go Bruins!

BONUS: Dr. Noize Bootleg

Dr. Noize rocks! The kids and I went to see our good friend Dr. Noize today, and he was mega-fantastic. This bootleg video of the concert doesn't do him justice (sorry), but it does give you a sense of the kind of energy he puts into his shows.

One of my favorite things about Dr. N (yes - we're actually that close) is that he seamlessly weaves music education into his concerts. You can't help but walk away feeling more musically inclined, and he even let's the kids rock-out with his equipment at the end of the show.

We predict that Dr. Noize is going to be B-I-G, BIG! And we hope everyone spreads the word. Rock on, Dr.

Day 25: Costume Party

Halloween is one of our mostest-favoritist holidays. So, as soon as the calendar turned to October, the kids asked is we could bring out the "Halloween boxes" - random clothes, costumes, and props that lead to all sorts of fun.

BONUS: Sunday Follies

Just a few fun moments from our afternoon "downtown." We're hoping to start a new, worldwide phenomenon of dancing in shoe stores. Just try on the nicest pair of shoes you can find, then bust a move! And don't forget to send us a video of your perfromance.

Speaking of performance... don't you love the catchy music in this video? Of course, you do! It's from the very cool debut album by our friend, Dr. Noize. The good Dr brings his super high-octane interactive show to the SF Bay Area next month, and you won't want to miss it! We'll be there shaking our tails! Ooh Gah Boo Gah!

Day 24: Teddy Bear Picnic

Today was "Teddy Bear Picnic Day" in Little K's class, and I was really looking forward to shooting a video. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a press pass to the event, and Little K declined to comment on camera. All I could get out of him was this:

"We brought our Teddy's. We ate Teddy Bear Bread. We played."

Alright, then. Nuff said.

Turns out that Teddy Bears and Teddy Bear Picnics are a BIG deal! The whole concept of the "Teddy Bear's Picnic" is based on a famous song recorded in 1932. (Hmmm. So Mrs. Davidson, why didn't we hold a TB picnic in my 1974 Kindergarten class?)

It turns out that people all over the world (New Zealand, Great Britain) celebrate the official Teddy Bear Picnic Day on July 10th every year. And you know it's a big holiday , when there are SIX classic e-greetings to choose from!

I guess the only person who doesn't love to dine with Teddy Bears is Stephen Col-bear. Feel free to send him an eCard next July!

Day 23: Stuck in the Present

Because my work is top secret I wasn't able to post most of the pictures and video footage I took while visiting Salt Lake City today... So this is all the unclassfied footage. A bit random, but probably more fun.

Day 19: Festival Fun

"So kids, what did you do at school today."
"I don't know. Not much."
"Ok - then let's go to the Walnut Festival!"

Day 17: Arrrrrrgggg

Avast me Hearties! Join in the fun arse we celebrate the grandest of all h'lidays, International Talk Like a Pirates Day!

Th'nks for watching ya salty dogs!

And here's Cap'n J, our special Southern California pirate correspondent, to share his thoughts on this momentous day...

Day 15: Monday Cruisin'

A lesson in how to go WILD after the kids go to bed...
A.K.A. Drool over a Mac and then hang out in the B&N reading magazines and critiquing their "education" section.
